Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei predicts AI could help cure most diseases within five to 10 years. The company says Claude helped find a molecular machine that may be a new gene-editing mechanism, though its function and significance remain unclear.
Anthropic said its life sciences team set a broad research direction; Claude reviewed scientific literature and genome data and proposed experiments, which the team carried out. Amodei said the work was done mostly, but not entirely, by Claude.
Amodei said AI could speed biological research and produce more promising drug and therapy candidates, but would not shorten clinical trials; resulting treatments would still require standard testing and regulatory review. He said Claude is not currently conducting experiments autonomously.
