AutoNavi’s Chinese navigation app AMap has launched a global Android version, but reviews average around three stars, and some reviewers say it does not work or lacks features; its live traffic-light countdown does not appear to have carried over.
In China, AMap offers live countdowns to traffic lights changing red or green, alongside traffic conditions and lane guidance. Traffic and road data come through connected transport infrastructure, which AutoNavi calls V2X, or vehicle-to-everything; Chinese municipal traffic-control systems can also connect directly to the app. Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze are unavailable in China, helping explain demand for a local alternative.
