On Sept. 24, former Trump aide Alyssa Farah Griffin said on The View that Trump’s White House press restrictions could work against him during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit, citing no pool footage or U.S. media coverage of Xi’s arrival and discussions.
On Sept. 24, U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly issued a 14-day temporary restraining order requiring the Trump administration to restore press credentials for CNN, MS NOW and Politico. Their reporters were later allowed back onto White House grounds, but access to specific events remained in question.
Major television networks had suspended their participation in the White House television pool in solidarity with the outlets. Trump criticized the networks on social media, claiming they refused to cover Xi’s arrival because they were “Fake News” and did not want him to receive credit.
