Akamai said it signed a seven-year, $11.6 billion deal with Anthropic on Sept. 24 for computing capacity to run AI agents; it could reach about $20 billion. Revenue is due to start in the second half of 2027, while Akamai plans roughly $5.5 billion in capital spending.
Anthropic is buying distributed computing capacity for routine work around AI models, including running agents rather than training them. Revenue from the agreement is expected to reach an annual run rate of about $1.7 billion by the end of 2028.
Akamai also issued Anthropic a warrant for up to roughly 5% of the company. The article says Akamai is worth about $16 billion, putting the base contract at more than two-thirds of that value, and flags reliance on a single customer—described as a young business—as a risk.
