The Dodgers activated Shohei Ohtani on Wednesday and sent top prospect Josue De Paula to Triple-A. De Paula can be recalled in 10 days, around the playoff opener, but normal rules bar him from the postseason roster; an injured-list exception could make him eligible.
De Paula was not added to the 40-man roster until after Sept. 1, making him ineligible under normal postseason rules. An exception allows a team to add him in place of a player on the 10- or 60-day injured list who has served the minimum time before activation. The Dodgers have several qualifying candidates on the 60-day list and are weighing their options.
