Stephen A. Smith urged the New York Giants to pursue a trade for Browns backup quarterback Shedeur Sanders after Jaxson Dart was ruled out for the rest of 2026 with a knee injury against the Rams. Jameis Winston is expected to start in Dart’s absence.
Smith said the Giants should look for a better backup than Winston, rather than a top-30 quarterback. Winston signed a two-year, $13 million extension with New York this summer.
Sanders is currently backing up Deshaun Watson in Cleveland and could potentially be available. The Browns drafted him 144th overall in the fifth round of the 2025 draft; he played eight games as a rookie, throwing seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
