Motley Fool contributor Micah Zimmerman favors Nvidia over Tesla for robotics through 2030, arguing Nvidia aims to sell chips, software and simulation tools to many robot makers, while Tesla’s Optimus program could compete for resources with its car, energy and autonomy work.
At its 2026 GTC conference, Nvidia said robotics companies including ABB Robotics, Agility, FANUC, Figure, Universal Robots, KUKA and Medtronic are building “production-scale physical AI” on its technology. Its platform spans hardware, open models, simulation and software: Cosmos generates synthetic training environments, Isaac tools support simulation-based robot training, and Jetson Thor and T4000 modules are designed as onboard robot computers.
Tesla describes Optimus as a general-purpose humanoid for unsafe, repetitive or boring tasks, with software for balance, navigation, perception and interaction with the physical world. Zimmerman says Optimus could become a serious business and potentially outcompete Nvidia by 2030, but Tesla’s car, robotaxi, energy and AI-infrastructure work could compete with it for resources.
