Miami scored first on an RBI single in the third inning. Seiya Suzuki tied the game with a solo homer in the fifth, and Nico Hoerner’s RBI single in the sixth proved enough; Ryan Zeferjahn closed with a hitless ninth. Pete Crow-Armstrong stole his 40th base of the season, becoming the seventh player in MLB history to record a 40/40 season.
The White Sox returned after a five-year playoff absence and three 100-loss seasons. The Cubs and White Sox had reached the postseason in the same year only in 1906, 2008 and 2020 before 2026.
