Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran sent Washington a seven-day plan via Qatar to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restore normal passage if conditions are met. The Wall Street Journal later reported Trump rejected it, citing US officials.
Media reports said the plan calls for a seven-day halt to hostilities across the Middle East, including Lebanon; the release of at least $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets; lifting sanctions on Iranian oil; and an end to the US naval blockade. Iran would reopen the strait on the seventh day.
The Journal said Trump was skeptical Tehran would meet his demands and considered a renewed bombing campaign likely. President Masoud Pezeshkian said a ceasefire process would begin the day the US accepted the proposal; a Revolutionary Guards spokesman said ending hostilities in Yemen was also among Iran's demands. A June US-Iran memorandum aimed to end the war, reopen Hormuz and begin nuclear talks, but broke down after Iran fired on commercial ships it accused of deviating from their approved route.
