Vickie Lynn Williams was convicted of two first-degree murders in the 2022 killings of Darryl and Sharon Getman, both 83, in Florida. A jury declined to impose death; the judge imposed consecutive life terms without parole, followed by five years for car theft.
At trial, Williams’ lawyer conceded she had been at the home but argued she was severely mentally ill, unmedicated and experiencing hallucinations linked to schizophrenia. He said voices directed her to search house to house for her children. Prosecutors sought death, citing the killings’ brutality. Jurors found the murders cruel, atrocious or heinous but rejected the state’s theory that Williams intended to burglarize the couple.
Investigators found Williams days later in Savannah, Georgia, after tracing the Getmans’ car to an Amtrak parking lot. She initially gave police the name “Vitoreyah Coffee,” claimed a friend had given her the car to live in because she was homeless, and denied being in Florida when the couple were killed.
