Whelford evacuation follows arrests over suspected Explosives Act offences

Several men were arrested on suspicion of Explosives Act offences in Whelford, near RAF Fairford, where police declared a major incident. Residents were evacuated to a nearby leisure centre as army experts examine vehicles; police say they believe it is contained.

Armed police manned a cordon near Whelford, and emergency services included a Hazardous Area Response Team. RAF Fairford is used by the US Air Force; the Ministry of Defence had been contacted for comment.
