Defending champion Washington beat No. 22 Rutgers 4-1 on Friday, handing the Scarlet Knights their first Big Ten loss and ending their three-game streak of wins over ranked teams. Zach Ramsey scored twice; Zach Mastrodimos cut Rutgers’ deficit to 2-1 at 67:01.
Ramsey opened the scoring at 24:57 and converted a penalty at 29:15. Mastrodimos pulled Rutgers within 2-1 at 67:01, but Osato Enabulele scored at 77:57 and Alex Hall at 87:29 to seal the result. Washington finished with 16 shots, eight on target; Rutgers had 12 shots, seven on target, and goalkeeper Stockton Short made six saves.
Rutgers fell to 4-4-1 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play, with seven regular-season matches left, all in conference. It hosts Northwestern on Oct. 2 and No. 4 Maryland on Oct. 6.
