Volkswagen opened presales in China for the ID. UNYX 09, its second electric vehicle developed jointly with Xpeng. The fastback sedan starts at 199,900 yuan ($29,785) and is scheduled to go on sale at the end of October.
Volkswagen said the ID. UNYX 09 reached production in 24 months, about 30% faster, using a new China-based architecture. It has CATL batteries and Xpeng's VLA driver-assistance system and will be built at Volkswagen's Hefei plant.
Volkswagen deliveries in China fell 26% to 971,000 vehicles in the first half of 2026, the company said in July, the lowest level in 16 years. It plans to launch more than 20 battery-electric and plug-in hybrid models this year.
