Uber announced plans to cut 3,300 jobs, about 10% of its workforce, as September's tracker logged 268 eliminated roles at Xbox, another round at Oracle and reported Apple layoffs. The Oracle and Apple totals are unknown; Bloomberg said Apple's cuts were in Fitness+.
Uber described its restructuring as removing management layers, simplifying teams and focusing people and investment on its biggest opportunities; its CEO's memo did not cite AI as a catalyst. Xbox said its 268 cuts span Halo Studios, other first-party studios and additional Xbox Game Studios areas. They are part of a summer reset; Xbox had laid off 1,600 people in July and said another 1,600 terminations were still to come.
Oracle's June 23 financial filing said the company cut 21,000 jobs over the previous year, about 13% of its workforce. It said AI adoption had resulted, and may continue to result, in staff reductions. Bloomberg reported the Apple cuts affected Fitness+'s audio side, which includes guided workouts such as Time to Walk and Time to Run; those offerings were reportedly set to be reduced, not discontinued.
