Trump and Xi agree on regular U.S.-China AI talks and an incident channel

The White House says the United States and China established a regular dialogue to exchange views on AI risks and benefits, calling the technology “super intelligence,” and agreed to set up a channel for incidents; the next exchange is due by November 2026.

China’s Foreign Ministry listed the dialogue among eight “deliverables and understandings” from the talks. Details of how the mechanism will work, including what would trigger an incident discussion, remained unclear; the countries also reached no agreement on jointly developing or regulating frontier AI models for safety.

On Saturday, Trump told reporters he had ruled out any integration between the countries on “super intelligence.” He said the United States was “leading China by a lot” and argued that a country in the lead should not open up its progress to the other side.
