Chinese leader Xi Jinping left Washington after a three-day visit without major breakthroughs on disputes including AI, Taiwan and Iran. Scott Bessent said officials had discussed extending the trade truce until January and staying in touch on AI.
A readout from Beijing said Xi raised Taiwan with Trump; US Ambassador to Beijing David Perdue said Trump asked Xi to stop supporting Iran. The countries remained at odds on most fronts, including the growing nuclear arsenal.
Xi said he would see Trump later this year at the APEC summit in China and the G20 summit in the US, and invited Trump to China in the spring. Many GOP lawmakers said they supported the visit but were wary of appearing overly deferential to the Chinese leader.
