Texas’ defensive line held UTSA to a field goal on a short-field drive in the Longhorns’ 30-6 win, stepping up after edge rusher Colin Simmons missed the second half. Lance Jackson, Ian Geffrard and Hero Kanu pressured quarterback Owen McCown on the possession.
UTSA began at Texas’ 35-yard line after an illegal forward pass by Arch Manning and a facemask penalty on the punt. After a 12-yard opening completion, Jackson pressured McCown into a 3-yard pass. Geffrard’s bull rush drove center Luke Lapeze toward McCown, forcing an inaccurate throw, and Jackson helped free Kanu on third down to pressure the quarterback into an incompletion.
Jackson had no tackles in 32 snaps against Texas State and missed two tackles against Ohio State. Simmons’ status for Texas’ SEC opener against No. 14 Tennessee in Knoxville remained unclear.
