Raymond Williams, 61, received a life sentence with a 27-year minimum for stabbing his estranged wife, Tania, 49, to death near her home in Thorpe St Andrew, Norfolk, in January. Her niece said the family would “never get over” the murder.
Williams denied the murder charge; he was sentenced after a 17-day trial. On the night of the killing, he searched for Tania in Norwich city-centre bars. They were later seen walking together before separating. Shortly before midnight, neighbours heard screams and voices and found her on the ground with significant blood loss; she was pronounced dead at the scene. Judge Bate called the killing a “plainly targeted ambush” and a “brutal attack.”
Tania was a mother of four. She and Williams married in 2000 and had three children together; he later moved out of the family home after their relationship broke down. About 350 people attended her funeral.
