Seattle-based Sweet Shop has opened its public digital comics and manga app on iOS and Android after a beta that began in January. It lists more than 10,000 publisher-supplied titles; CEO Kenny Meyers says the beta drew 6,000 users.
Launch partners include Kodansha, Dynamite Entertainment, Titan Comics, Abrams Comic Arts, Glacier Bay Books, Fanbase Press, Iron Circus Comics and Seven Seas Entertainment; the catalog also features publishers such as Image Comics and Dark Horse. DC and Marvel are absent, and Meyers says there are no plans for either to join anytime soon. He also reported 56% monthly growth during beta.
The app has no subscription plans, tokens, digital collectibles or sponsored links, and Sweet Shop says it uses no AI. Features include in-app purchases, wish lists, online reading, library management and PDF backups. Readers can download DRM-free titles; any DRM protection is at publishers’ request.
