Marquette began Big East play 2-0, sweeping UConn 25-22, 25-17, 25-15 on Friday and Providence 25-14, 25-19, 25-23 on Saturday. The wins lifted the Golden Eagles to 7-5 overall; they were alone atop the conference at the time of publication.
Carson Tyler led Marquette with 13 kills against UConn, then posted 18 kills, 11 digs and two aces against Providence. Caydence Doolan added 10 kills in the UConn match; Providence hit .087 as a team and committed 22 attack errors.
The Golden Eagles are next scheduled to play at DePaul on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Central on ESPN+, then face Creighton in Omaha next Sunday at 1 p.m. Central, also on ESPN+. At publication, both opponents were 1-0 in Big East play, with Saturday matches still pending.
