Sue Bird now says she would pick A’ja Wilson for WNBA MVP, shifting from her earlier support for Olivia Miles. Bird cited a slight dip in Miles’ recent play and Wilson’s consistency, but said a strong finish could put Miles back at the front of the race.
Bird had originally put Miles at the top of her MVP list, arguing that the best player on the league’s best team should win. She said Miles had risen to the occasion while the team did not have Napheesa.
Bird said she rejects “voter fatigue” as a reason to overlook Wilson. She also named Kelsey Mitchell as a contender, with Stewie and Caitlin in the mix.
