Steven Spielberg and his three sisters arranged a mock Judge Judy trial as a 90th-birthday gift for their late mother, Leah Adler, who adored the show. The televised skit featured a dispute over a bill for Groucho Marx glasses bought for her party.
In the skit, two siblings accused the other two of buying a bag of Groucho Marx novelty glasses for Adler and refusing to pay. Judge Judy said each child sees a different part of a parent; Spielberg then dropped the fake charges against his siblings.
Spielberg recounted the episode in Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable, a special marking Judith Sheindlin’s 30 years on camera that premiered Sept. 22 on CBS and Paramount+. He said Adler, who died in 2017 at 97, liked Sheindlin because the judge said things Adler wished she could say.
