Leaders at major AI companies, including OpenAI and Anthropic, have called for slowing AI development, while pressure is growing on Congress to regulate it; the House has left town early until after the midterms. Johnson said the meeting would address companies’ safety responsibilities and what role, if any, government should play. Trump has called warnings about AI’s dangers a “hoax.”
