Sucker Punch’s Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus marked 24 years since its PlayStation 2 debut on Sept. 24, 2026. Metacritic lists an 86 Metascore; critics praised its level design, story, cel-shaded graphics, noir tone and stealth mechanics.
The first game follows Sly and his friends as they try to recover the Thievius Raccoonus, stolen by the Fiendish Five, who also murdered Sly’s father. Sly and his crew generally target other criminals, drawing the attention of Inspector Carmelita Fox; gameplay blends platforming, stealth and cane-based combat.
Three sequels followed: Band of Thieves and Honor Among Thieves on PS2, then Thieves in Time on PS3 in 2013. Sly appeared in Astro Bot in 2024. Sucker Punch later dismissed a 2021 leak claiming a new Sly Cooper game was in development. The first three games are available on the PlayStation Store for modern consoles; Thieves in Time remains on PS3.
