At Saturday’s Texas–Tennessee game, ESPN’s Laura Rutledge said Donald Trump’s presence could affect coaches’ radio communications as ABC’s audio malfunctioned. The audio issues were eventually handled, and the rest of the first half continued without further audio trouble.
Before kickoff, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian acknowledged the communications concern in pregame interviews. Rutledge described “electromagnetic deconfliction” as coordinating radio frequencies so multiple systems do not interfere. ABC’s audio became difficult to hear as Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit called the game.
