The Los Angeles Dodgers activated catcher Dalton Rushing from the injured list Friday for a three-day pinch-hitting audition for their final postseason roster spot. Josue De Paula appears to have the edge, according to California Post reporter Jack Harris.
De Paula was sent to Triple-A earlier in the week, but The Athletic's Katie Woo reported he could still be eligible for the postseason roster if he replaces a 10- or 60-day injured-list player who has served the minimum time required for activation. Woo said the Dodgers had several qualifying candidates on the 60-day IL.
Harris cited De Paula's speed—31 stolen bases in Double-A this year and one during his initial MLB stint—and his ability to play the outfield as advantages. The story described Rushing as likely to be used only at catcher and said the competition would be monitored through the weekend and into the coming week.
