Colorado hosts Arizona at 6:40 p.m. MT Wednesday after reaching 100 losses for a fourth straight season. Rookie Mason Adams is set for his sixth start against Merrill Kelly; the Diamondbacks trail the Cubs, Phillies and Padres by four games in the Wild Card race.
Adams brings an 0-1 record, a 5.09 ERA and 23 strikeouts against 12 walks. In his previous start, he gave up six runs on eight hits and recorded one strikeout with three walks in a 9-3 loss to San Diego. Kelly is 9-14 with a 5.00 ERA and has lost five of his last seven starts.
In Tuesday’s loss, Colorado managed three hits while Arizona had 13. The three teams Arizona trails—the Cubs, Phillies and Padres—were all 87-70 after Tuesday’s games.
