A late-July CBS News poll found 67% of Americans wanted the war to end immediately: 92% of Democrats, 73% of independents and 30% of Republicans. Last week, seven House Republicans voted with Democrats on a resolution to block Trump from taking further action in Iran. Hinson did not vote to support a war-powers resolution limiting his authority.
In Iowa, oil-market turmoil has driven diesel and fertilizer prices higher, pressuring farmers. Hinson has proposed pausing diesel exports, suspending the gas tax and creating a diesel relief program; Rogers has also called for diesel export restrictions and a gas-tax suspension. Trump predicted a deal with Iran after the midterms.
