Guernsey’s Development and Planning Authority has renewed permission for a 4m-tall ormer statue at the end of Victoria Pier in St Peter Port Harbour. The decision gives project company The Guernsey Ormer LBG three years to complete the bronze statue.
The original permission, granted in 2021, had lapsed. The statue and base are planned in cast bronze. The DPA described an interior shell of smooth, polished bronze with a reflective surface intended to replicate the mother-of-pearl texture of ormer shells. The statue’s plan-view dimensions are approximately 2.8m by 1m.
Islanders in St Peter Port expressed differing views. Hannah said she would have preferred a donkey, while Chris said the statue would be something nice for tourists to look at.
