Hogs Haven’s John Portis proposes benching Mike Sainristil and reshaping Washington’s secondary for Sunday against Seattle: Rasul Douglas outside, Fabian Moreau at slot/box, Jeremy Reaves in the box and Tyler Owens at free safety. Nick Cross is ruled out.
Cross was hospitalized after the Cowboys game and ruled out Wednesday; Portis says he would not count on Cross being part of the solution for a couple of weeks. Portis cites Sainristil’s 153.7 allowed passer rating through two games and PFF’s ranking of him last among 94 cornerbacks. Douglas had a 97.4 allowed passer rating in Pro Football Reference’s data, though he gave up four catches for 52 yards on five targets against Dallas.
Portis proposes Moreau for slot/box, citing a 54.6 allowed passer rating over 152 coverage snaps with Minnesota last season. He suggests Owens at free safety despite noting that Owens had no snaps at the position in last season’s Chiefs matchup. Portis also says coach Dan Quinn mentioned Quan Martin and Percy Butler at Friday’s news conference, suggesting Washington may stick with familiar options, and argues persistent communication problems may require simpler coverage and personnel changes.
