D.C. renter Ashley Buchanan used pink-painted IKEA shelving to carve a bedroom out of her 480-square-foot studio. The layout fits a queen bed, walking space on both sides and open storage; she says the apartment looks twice as large.
Buchanan already owned an IKEA ELVARI system and said she bought only a couple of extra shelves. Pink faux-grasscloth wallpaper behind the headboard was her starting point for the sleeping area and helped distinguish it from the rest of the apartment.
