Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said he met Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei for seven hours about a month or six weeks ago, calling him “completely” healthy and able to govern. Khamenei has been out of public view for months amid reports he was seriously injured.
Pezeshkian said his administration is consulted and directed by Khamenei. Asked why the supreme leader has not addressed the public since the war began, he blamed what he described as a lack of security caused by foreign actions.
Khamenei was reportedly seriously injured in U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Feb. 28 that killed his father and predecessor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and several family members. The Atlantic cited sources in Tehran who speculated Khamenei was dead or brain-dead, while others believed he was alive. President Trump said he did not think Khamenei was dead and described him as very seriously wounded.
