Pete Crow-Armstrong joined MLB’s 40-40 club Thursday, stealing his 40th base against the Marlins at Wrigley Field. With 45 home runs and 40 steals, he became the seventh player to reach both marks in one season.
The previous six were José Canseco (42 home runs, 40 steals in 1988), Barry Bonds (42/40 in 1996), Alex Rodriguez (42/46 in 1998), Alfonso Soriano (46/41 in 2006), Ronald Acuña Jr. (41/73 in 2023) and Shohei Ohtani (54/59 in 2024).
No player has recorded more than one 40-40 season. Three of the seven have come in 2023–26; the article notes MLB relaxed certain rules in recent years to encourage base stealing.
