Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong stole his 40th base Thursday, becoming the seventh player in Major League Baseball history to reach 40 homers and 40 steals in a season. The Cubs beat Miami 2-1 to clinch a National League wild-card berth.
Crow-Armstrong reached on a leadoff walk against Marlins starter Tyler Phillips in the first inning, then stole the milestone base on Phillips' first pitch to Seiya Suzuki. He hit his 40th home run Sept. 6 against Miami, when he had 33 steals with 18 games left.
At 24, Crow-Armstrong is the first Cub to record 40 home runs and 30 steals in a season. His 45 homers were tied for the MLB lead entering Thursday; he ranked fourth with 107 RBI and led the National League with a .951 OPS.
