Loik Le Priol was sentenced to 26 years in prison and Romain Bouvier to 19 years for the 2022 Paris murder of former Argentina rugby international Federico Martin Aramburu. After a bar fight, Bouvier opened fire first; Le Priol fired the fatal shots.
CCTV footage reviewed during the investigation showed Aramburu and former teammate Shaun Hegarty sitting at a bar opposite Le Priol and Bouvier on 19 March 2022. After the altercation, the rugby players walked toward their hotel, and the two men drove around to find them. Le Priol and Bouvier were linked at the time to a far-right extremist group that has since dissolved.
As the trial concluded, Le Priol asked Aramburu's family for forgiveness. The defence cited post-traumatic stress disorder in Le Priol's case and childhood trauma in Bouvier's; the presiding judge said Le Priol had been driven by a will to kill. Aramburu's widow, Maria, asked for a verdict that would let her and their three children build their lives.
