The San Diego Padres lost 11-4 to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, despite outhitting them 10-8. Starter Casey Mize allowed seven runs in four innings; San Diego still needs one win to secure home-field advantage in the upcoming Wild Card series.
After Mize left, David Morgan, Kyle Hart, Jason Adam and Wandy Peralta covered the final five innings. Hart walked three before allowing a three-run double, while Adam walked two and gave up a run. Peralta pitched two perfect innings, and Morgan worked a scoreless fifth.
The next-game preview lists Walker Buehler for San Diego and says Arizona is likely to use Ryne Nelson in a bulk-relief role after an opener. San Diego also had Yuki Matsui, Mason Miller, Adrian Morejon and Bradgley Rodriguez available as high-leverage relievers.
