San Diego beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 at Dodger Stadium on Thursday to clinch a playoff berth, then celebrated on the field with beer, cigars and dancing. The Dodgers had already secured the National League’s No. 2 seed after Atlanta’s loss, earning a first-round bye.
As of Friday afternoon, the projected Wild Card matchup had the Padres facing the Chicago Cubs, with the winner advancing to meet the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS. The Dodgers would face the winner of the Braves-Phillies Wild Card series.
Fernando Tatis Jr. danced on the field and hugged new Padres owner Kwanza Jones. Former Dodger Walker Buehler joined owner José E. Feliciano in the celebration and replied “It’s my thing” after appearing to support Feliciano’s beer-bong turn.
