Old Dominion sets 4.9% rate increase under three tariffs from Oct. 5

Insider Monkey

Old Dominion Freight Line announced a 4.9% general rate increase effective Oct. 5, 2026, on rates under three tariffs; customer rate changes vary by lane and distance, while minimum charges rise modestly. The company has not quantified the revenue impact.

The increase is intended to offset pressure from real estate, equipment, technology, wages and benefits. Contracts and discounts may limit how much Old Dominion retains, and the company did not disclose the share of revenue affected.

For July and August combined, less-than-truckload revenue per hundredweight excluding fuel surcharges rose 4.8% year over year, though freight mix also affects the measure. Old Dominion reported 99% on-time service and a 0.1% claims ratio in Q2. August shipments per day fell 2.4% year over year and tons per day fell 0.9%, before the new rates took effect.
