Florida State coach Mike Norvell said players who keep repeating execution mistakes could lose playing time after the Seminoles fell to 1-2 with a 50-36 loss to Alabama, surrendering a 21-6 lead. He also said the coaching staff shares responsibility.
Norvell said responsibility was not solely on players: coaches also had to put them in better positions. He cited missed signals, poor alignments, leverage and players out of position, and questioned whether the defense was being asked to do too much. Alabama scored on nine straight possessions and gained 567 yards; FSU has surrendered more than 550 yards in each of its last two games.
Florida State’s next game is at home against Central Arkansas, followed by Virginia on Oct. 3. Norvell’s eight-year, $84 million extension runs through 2031; the buyout would be roughly $51 million if the school moved on during or after the 2026 season. Some fans have launched a website calling for his removal and discussed raising money toward the buyout.
