No. 1 Texas and No. 14 Tennessee, both 3-0, meet Saturday at 11 a.m. Central on ABC in the teams’ first-ever campus matchup and Texas’ SEC opener. The Longhorns face a major road test against Tennessee’s rushing attack and freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon.
Tennessee has averaged 510.3 yards per game, 14th in the FBS, and ranks fourth in rushing and seventh in scoring. Brandon has 552 passing yards and six touchdowns, plus 137 rushing yards and three scores, through three games. DeSean Bishop, who ran for 1,076 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, was held out for much of last week’s second half after a minor hip injury.
Tennessee defensive coordinator Jim Knowles is in his first season with the team. The Volunteers ranked 116th nationally in passing yards allowed per game and 92nd in scoring defense last season. Tight end Ethan Davis, who has caught two touchdowns this season, is out for the year with an ACL injury.
