Democrat Chris Pappas leads Republican John E. Sununu 50%-42% in New Hampshire’s open Senate race, a University of New Hampshire poll finds. The Sept. 17–21 survey of 1,418 likely voters has a 2.6-point margin of error; Sununu was ahead 45%-43% in the pollster’s August survey.
The poll found 2% support for Constitution Party candidate Edmond Laplante, 2% for write-in candidates and 4% undecided. A separate co/efficient poll conducted Sept. 9–11 found Pappas and Sununu tied at 46%, with 9% undecided. Cook Political Report rates the race a toss-up, after moving it from Lean Democratic earlier this month.
Cook said Republicans nationally were on pace to hold a $20 million edge in the state. The forecaster also reported that Sununu allies had outspent pro-Pappas groups by almost 2 to 1.
