Police in Naples found $3.6 million in bundled €50 bills and 11 Rolex watches in a Caivano apartment, allegedly held by Angelino clan members. Authorities arrested 34 people in connection with the cash and charged them with crimes including drug trafficking and extortion.
Police found the cash after breaking into walls and lifting floorboards; the search also uncovered weapons and drug paraphernalia. The money and valuables are to be sent to Italy’s “Justice Fund” to help people affected by organized crime.
Anti-mafia prosecutor Nicola Gratteri described the clan’s operation as “entrepreneurial,” saying people worked shifts in its illegal activities. The report says many clan members were allegedly carrying out operations while behind bars.
