More than 2,200 officers deployed in Germany’s salon inspections

Germany’s customs service deployed more than 2,200 officers on Saturday to inspect barbershops and beauty salons nationwide, targeting undeclared work and wage dumping. Results of the campaign were not initially available.

Barbershops in and around Cologne were the focus. Customs spokesman Jens Ahland said such businesses often draw attention over undeclared work; he cited cases of employees without adequate insurance, below-minimum-wage pay, illegal employment and bogus self-employment.
