Red Sox catcher Mickey Gasper is likely to miss the AL Wild Card Series against the Yankees after feeling right-biceps discomfort on a swing in Friday’s win over the Cubs. Manager Chad Tracy said he thought Gasper was going for an MRI but did not know exactly what the injury was.
Gasper has hit .251/.357/.466 with 10 home runs and has Boston’s second-highest OPS among players with at least 200 at-bats. He had also played first base and designated hitter. Adley Rutschman will likely get more time at catcher, with Connor Wong as backup; Andruw Monasterio and Nick Sogard are options at first base while Willson Contreras is out for the foreseeable future.
