Mexico’s annual inflation tops forecasts at 3.42% as core rate cools

Mexico’s annual inflation rose to 3.42% in the first half of September from 3.26% a month earlier, above economists’ 3.37% forecast. Core annual inflation eased to 3.79% from 3.93% in the first half of August, INEGI said.

The core index excludes some volatile food and energy prices. Its annual rate was slightly below economists’ 3.81% forecast and remained within the Bank of Mexico’s target of 3%, plus or minus one percentage point. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.33% in the first half of September, while the core index rose 0.17%.
