Meta unveiled $1,299 VR glasses at its Sept. 23 Connect event, about a third of Apple's Vision Pro's price. Engadget reports the roughly 100-gram glasses have a 5K display and up to three hours of playback; Meta says they ship in spring 2027.
The glasses tether to a separate computing puck, so the 100-gram figure covers the glasses alone. Their 70-degree field of view is narrower than the Vision Pro's 100 degrees. About 75 games are due at launch, and the glasses are IMAX Enhanced-certified and compatible with Xbox Cloud Gaming. Zuckerberg said Meta would focus “a little bit less on metaverse for now” and build fewer VR devices.
Meta also announced camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses for $349, shipping Oct. 13; the company says they last up to 12 hours, with 48 more hours from the charging case. Camera-equipped Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 starts at $449 and is on sale, while Meta Adventurer starts at $249 and ships Oct. 23. IDC data reported by Mixed put Meta at 68.7% of smart-glasses shipments in the second quarter.
