Chicago placed right-hander Luis Castillo on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement before its game in Kansas City. He would be ineligible for the Wild Card Series and ALDS, but could return for the ALCS or World Series if the White Sox advance.
At publication, Chicago needed one more win or a Texas Rangers loss to clinch a postseason berth and was leading Kansas City 8-0 in the top of the fourth. Castillo had a 7.52 ERA in his first six White Sox starts after a trade from Seattle, then shifted to opener and bullpen roles.
The White Sox are responsible for Castillo’s $22.75 million salary for the 2027 season.
