Louisiana-Pacific is expanding SmartSide siding capacity as OSB demand weakens: Q2 OSB revenue fell 20% year over year, while total Siding revenue declined 4%. Management expects Siding volume and revenue to return to year-over-year growth in Q3.
LP says SmartSide is gaining share despite a weak housing market: Q2 U.S. single-family starts were 18% below Q2 2021, while SmartSide volume was 10% higher and revenue more than 50% higher than in that comparison quarter. ExpertFinish, its prefinished siding and trim, represented 12% of Siding volume and 18% of revenue in Q1. LP is adding about 50 million square feet of annual capacity at Green Bay, plans another 20 million at Bath, New York, and has begun building a larger Minnesota facility.
LP says it secured two new builder partnerships in 2026 and expects to supply about 100 million square feet of SmartSide to 15 of the 25 largest U.S. homebuilders. It announced an indefinite production curtailment at its Jasper, Texas, OSB facility beginning in October, citing weak demand. Analysts cited in the article expect earnings to rebound next year and give an average price target of $92; the stock had nearly halved since November 2024.
