Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said the company can meet only 50% of customer demand for CPUs. The Motley Fool says tight supply could also benefit AMD; Mercury Research puts AMD’s server-CPU share at 34.5% in Q2, up from 27.3% a year earlier.
AMD projects the server-CPU market will grow at a compound annual rate above 50% through 2030, reaching $220 billion in revenue that year. Its data-center revenue rose 107% year over year in Q2; AMD expects server revenue to grow more than 80% year over year in H2 2026 and by more than 70% in 2027.
AMD is looking to ramp CPU production capacity in Taiwan with TSMC; CEO Lisa Su expects increases each quarter in 2026 and additional capacity in 2027. Tom’s Hardware reported Intel was poised to raise CPU prices 10% in March 2027, with AMD expected to follow. The Motley Fool concludes investors seeking exposure to AI server-CPU demand should favor AMD over Intel, citing forward earnings multiples of 36 and 56, respectively.
