San Francisco 49ers star Kyle Juszczyk is appealing a reported $14,926 NFL fine for miming a drink during a touchdown celebration. The league said it resembled chugging beer and could be construed as poor taste; the gesture is an ode to his “Juice” nickname.
Juszczyk performed the celebration in San Francisco's 35-13 win over Miami on Sept. 20. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the fine on Sept. 24, citing a league letter that called it an “offensive demonstration.”
Jason Kelce and JJ Watt defended Juszczyk online, and Kelce's beer brand, Garage Beer, offered to pay the fine. Kelce said the NFL could not prove Juszczyk was chugging alcohol; Watt suggested the gesture could refer to his nickname.
